General Comments:

The decision to use photographs from the first 100 years was the desire to include only black and white photos. Color usage was widespread by 1940.

Each page is described in some detail in the plates index at back of book. The earliest photos are palladium prints from daguerreotypes. 1840s.

Excellent history and very difficult to obtain now together.

Condition

Some minor water stains with some minor soiling; the binding is tight; tissue slip-sheets between photographs. photos in very good condition
